DNPW oversees the management of nine protected areas in Malawi: the National Parks of Kasungu, Nyika, Liwonde, Lengwe and Lake Malawi and the Wildlife Reserves of Majete, Mwabvi, Vwaza Marsh and Nkhotakota. Find out more here.
In 2003, DNPW entered into a 25-year public-private partnerships with African Parks to manage Majete, who also took over management of Nkhotakhota and Liwonde in 2015. As a result, law enforcement has vastly improved, and wildlife populations are being restored. Interventions include the world’s largest elephant translocation.
